A report by Fortune Business Insights™ entitled, ‘Automotive NVH Material Market, 2021-2028’, delivered some good news for the NVH industry when it was published this spring. It predicts that the global automotive industry will grow from 10.96 billion US dollars in 2021 to 16.93 billion US dollars in 2028, representing a compound annual growth rate of 6.4%.

What’s driving growth?

The positive forecast for the NVH industry is being attributed to the following factors:

  • A worldwide increase in demand for cars and other vehicles
  • An increased focus on car safety by governments globally
  • A rising demand for porous NVH materials
  • An increased focus on curbing the harmful effects of noise pollution
  • The global growth of the electric vehicle industry, which is being driven by government environmental targets

The effect of Covid-19

Although the report forecasts a positive future for the global NVH market, it does take into account the pandemic, which inevitably had a negative impact on the industry due to the shockwaves that lockdowns, restrictions on movement, price rises and supply chain issues caused throughout the worldwide motor industry as a whole.

Which area is driving growth?

Thanks to its rapidly expanding automobile sector caused by the region’s growing middle-class demographic, the Asia Pacific area is set to lead the way in the NVH sector this decade. A growing market for more comfortable vehicles will also fuel this growth.

North America will follow as the next biggest market, as the automotive industry continues to expand and the area transitions towards electric vehicles.

Despite not reaching the heights of its global neighbours, ‘exceptional growth’ is predicted in Europe, mainly due to an increased use of NVH materials in automotive manufacture and the high production standards that exist across the continent which must be adhered to for a vehicle to be considered legally roadworthy.

A competitive marketplace

The report identified that that the biggest players in the global NVH marketplace are gaining an edge on their competitors by developing and launching brand new products to solve the NVH issues that car manufacturers are faced with as they create new vehicles for the modern age.

Here at Interflex, an innovative approach to NVH issues has always been at the heart of what we do. Recently, that spirit of innovation has led to the launch of our new material, Ocean. This lightweight and mouldable material is made from 75% recycled polyester and is already being used in the car industry in applications such as headliners and doors. However, this high-performance acoustic absorbent material also has great potential in other industries such as construction, roadways and rail.

Adapting for the future

Brexit, the pandemic and the rising cost of living have all made the automotive industry a difficult sector to operate in over recent years. However, this research is heartening news for the entire NVH industry as it continues to evolve and adapt to provide the solutions that are needed for the challenging demands of the global car manufacturing industry.
